Explorer View enhances the functionality you can expect to get from Windows Explorer, Microsoft’s default file management tool. What Explorer View does is it integrates with Windows Explorer and it lets you preview files. Select a JPEG image, and Explorer View will display it. Select a DXF drawing, and Explorer View will display it. Select a PDF document, and Explorer View will display it.

There are just some examples. Explorer View supports more than JPEG, DXF and PDF files. As a matter of fact, it provides support for some 100 different file formats, including DOC(X) and ODT documents, BMP, JPEG, and TIFF images, MPG and WMV videos, RAR and ZIP archives. Click here to see a list of supported file formats.

A standard installation procedure must be completed to get Explorer View up and running on a Windows PC. I remind you that such a procedure goes something like this: download an installer, run it, click through the steps presented onscreen by a setup wizard. Completing a standard installation procedure takes little time and very little effort.

Double click Explorer View’s icon from the system tray and you will bring up Windows Explorer.
Right click Explorer View’s icon from the system tray and you will bring up a context menu that features the following entries: Explore with Explorer View, Options, Update, Help, Activate, About, Visit website, Web support, Exit.

Explorer View, as mentioned above, integrates with Windows Explorer. You will see an Explorer View panel down at the bottom on Windows Explorer. Select a supported file format and this panel will display it. If you select a JPEG file for example, Explorer View will display the image. If you select a PDF file, Explorer View will display the document. Check out the Quick Look video that accompanies this article to see how Explorer View works.

Explorer View is free to use for a trial period of 30 days.

Preview tons of file formats within Windows Explorer. Explorer View provides support for several types of images, Office and OpenOffice documents, PDFs, archives, and more.

Pros

You’ll have to complete a standard installation procedure to get Explorer View up and running on your PC. Explorer View nicely integrates with Windows Explorer. Explorer View provides support for lots of file formats; preview supported formats within Windows Explorer.

Cons

Trial limitations: 30-day trial. Tip You may want to check out Free Opener, a tool that can open tons of file formats (it provides support for more than 350 types of formats).
